About Us
Starting from a single dental practice in Dearborn, Michigan in 1975, the entrepreneurial vision of Dr. Walter Knysz, Jr. developed into a multi-practice organization in seven states.
American Dental Group began is current expansion phase in 1998 with the acquisition of 5 dental practices in Atlanta, GA. This was quickly followed by the purchase of two large dental practices in the Detroit area in 1999 - Eastside Dental Center and Metropolitan Dental Center. These acquisitions highlighted unique and market-specific needs of each dental office, and laid the groundwork for the Regional Director management concept we use today.
Each region consists of geographically similar dental offices and each region is assigned a dedicated Regional Director, who is either a practicing dental professional or has significant management experience with multiple dental locations. These regional directors act as mentors and liaisons between the dental office staff and the executive team at the Practice Support Center.
Through expansion in new markets, American Dental Group realized the importance and need for a strong, effective national brand name. American Dental Group believed that future successful growth would depend on common office signage, standard advertising campaigns and similar dental office concepts. Great Expressions Dental Centers was developed in 1999 and fully implemented throughout the organization by 2003.
The Great Expressions Dental Center expansion program continued in 2001 with the addition of five orthodontic centers in the Detroit area. This acquisition set Great Expressions Dental Centers apart from any local competitor with the distinction of being “Michigan’s largest provider of orthodontic services” with 14 orthodontic practices.
Great Expressions Dental Centers celebrated the opening of its 50th location in 2002 and has continued its growth through other single practice acquisitions and the opening of de novo office.
In 2005, Great Expressions Dental Centers expanded its territory through the acquisition of Northeast Dental Centers (5 practices in Massachusetts and Connecticut) and Sunshine Dental Centers (4 practices in Southwest Florida). These acquisitions gave Great Expressions Dental Centers a platform for additional growth outside of its major market in Michigan and provides unlimited opportunities for all Great Expressions Dental Centers’ employees.
