Great Expressions Donates More than $14,000 to Support Multicultural Families

(Aug. 7th, 2017) – Following their desire to support children and parents in families with transracially adopted children, Great Expressions Dental Centers (GEDC) has donated $14,000 to Transracial Journeys, an educational and social organization designed to support multicultural families. Transracial adoption refers to the adoption of a child that is of a different race than that of the adoptive parents.

The company-wide initiative was spearheaded by Kurt Harvey, GEDC’s Chief Business Development Officer, as he has been involved with Transracial Journeys since its formation after he and his wife, Kathy, formed their own transracial family. The funds provided to Transracial Journeys were the result of individual GEDC employee donations with matching donations from each GEDC and the Harvey family.

“It has been an incredible honor to see the progress we made in raising over $14,000 for such a great cause,” said Harvey. “I want to thank my colleagues and Great Expressions for joining my family in contributing to this incredible organization.”

GEDC understands the importance of building communities and breaking down barriers in pursuit of equality. For the past three years, GEDC has been a proud sponsor of Transracial Journeys Family Camp. The camp nurtures children’s racial identity and self-esteem, and helps parents understand core adoption challenges and the importance of culture and race in raising their children.
