Great Expressions Offers Simple Tips for Children’s Dental Hygiene Month

February 1, 2016

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – Feb. 1, 2016 – Tooth decay, the most common chronic disease among children in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), can lead to serious heart problems, including heart disease. This February, Children’s Dental Health Month, Great Expressions Dental Centers (GEDC) is spreading the word about simple ways to prevent tooth decay and other oral health issues in children as developing good dental habits today can mean better health tomorrow.

“While tooth decay is one of the most common diseases in young children, it’s also one of the most preventable,” said Dr. Robert Brody of Great Expressions Dental Centers. “It’s important for parents to make sure that children maintain regular check-ups with their dentist, brush and floss daily, and limit intake of sugary foods that can create bacteria and destroy enamel. Developing such habits early on can pay big dividends in the long run.”

To encourage kids to participate in good oral hygiene practices, Great Expressions Dental Centers has launched a Facebook contest. The contest, “Grin and Win,” offers parents a chance to submit a photo of their child’s smile for a chance to win a free bike or movie bundle. Winners of the movie bundle will be selected once per week throughout the month of February, and a grand prize bike winner will be selected at the end of the month. GEDC has long worked to enhance children’s dental health – its Georgia and Florida pedodontists, or pediatric dentists, turn a trip to the dentist into a kid friendly experience, with toy boxes, children’s movies and themed murals to make the dentist’s office feel like home. In GEDC’s No Cavity Club, children who don’t have cavities at the time of their check-up are eligible to win bikes. Children who are new patients are also qualified to win movie tickets, snacks and drinks for their family. GEDC pedodontists focus on a wide spectrum of conditions affecting dental development in youth, and the most common pediatric dentistry services include fillings, extractions and preventative treatments.
